Missibaba
Today is definitely a proudly SA day today, as I’m doing 2 proudly SA features.
The 2nd one for today is Missibaba, a luxury accessory design label. Founder, Chloe Townsend, established her label 5 years ago. She is a leather aficionado and is passionate about South Africa. She based her studio in Woodstock where she surrounded herself with the best craftswomen in the country. Chloe was a student at the London College of Fashion where she learnt all her technical skills, and with her creativity and passion she created Missibaba.

Who’s Your Grand Daddy?
Strange name for a subject don’t you think? This post is not about grand parent’s, in fact I’m introducing you to the MOST INTERESTING hotel in our beautiful country!
The Grand Daddy hotel consists of several different entities. They have grown from an extraordinary hotel to a hotel with 2 bars, a boardroom, a restaurant and even a rooftop trailer park! The Grand Daddy hotel is an award-winning creative project that mirrors the talent style and flavour of the Mother City.
A little bit of history. The original building was designed by Mello Gerardus Damstra, a Dutchman who came to the Cape around 1895. The building, on 38 Long Street, which was built in 1874, opened its doors in 1895 as the Hotel Metropole. Coincidence that Mello rocked up in SA in that same year? The Grand Daddy is also lucky to be the only building in Cape Town whose vintage elevator is still operational.
The trailer park. Who would have thought that you can live in a trailer in the centre of Cape Town? I definitely didn’t see this one coming. The rooftop trailer park had the 7 Airstream Trailers shipped all the way from the US. These were all individually themed and decorated to take each visitor on a different journey. This definitely brings new meaning to being called “trailer trash”.
The Hotel. 23 Superior Rooms and 2 Sugar Daddy suites are your choices if you do not wish to dip into the trailer side of things. Tracy Lynch is the creator of the gorgeous opulent world that awaits you inside, with her unique yet proudly South African flair for décor.
Little extra tid-bit of info. The golden statuette of Leon is the hotel’s dog mascot. He’s the one ensuring that the visitors have a great time and experiences awesome service.

Super Cute Bridal Shower
I saw this very cute bridal shower on Style Me Pretty and had to share this with all of you. Yes it might have been the dessert table that caught my eye but after seeing all the other unique pieces like the blue birdcages with the flowers inside, the polka dot strings and even the stripe straws I knew I was in love!

Nature Inspired Fashion Show – The big day
I’m calling it a big day as this really was an amazing event. It turned out to be the big crowd puller for the day as people gathered to view the local design talent. The venue was perfectly decorated with a beautiful forest back drop and plants in between the chairs on the side of the runway.
Backstage the nerves hit as the dancers finished on stage. Finally the announcement was made and we got queued to start walking. The show started with models wearing “I heart kNYsna” tanks from the Knysna T-Shirt Company, Bennett and Co. shoes and belts designed by Lindsay Bennett and bags from Gypsey Lou designed by Louise Leggatt, both designers resides in Wilderness and uses locally sourced materials and employs staff from their community.
2nd up we had Sunstone Bodywear. Beautifully knitted and crocheted clothing made by local women in and around the Wilderness area. Designer Melissa Wahl uses natural fabrics and yarns for her amazing body wear.
Each model also had the privilege to showcase their own style with the outfit they wore for Edgars. They were allowed to chose their own outfits and wear with their own accessories and shoes.
George designer Allison Pledger from the label Ali Unlimited introduced comfortable and classic clothing. Perfect for everyday wear around town or dressed up with her magnificent pieces of aluminium jewellery and beaded shoes.
Finally to end off the show the models wore local Knysna designers Nicki Friedlein and Charlotte Pregnolato from the label Rich and Creamy. Their comfortable yoga inspired outfits and accessories are combinations of recycled materials, African Shweshwe and Indian block prints.
If it wasn’t for the beautiful hair and make-up form Cut of Africa and the Beauty Therapy Institute of Knysna who used their knowledge to turn each girl into a forest nymph the show would not have been complete.
Thanks to organizer Eugene Barnard for all the hard work and for making this show as successful as all the previous ones. Lovesit!

Nature Inspired Fashion Show – Media Launch
After a long wait everything finally started happening. On Friday evening we had the Media Launch for the Nature Inspired Fashion Show. The setting: Pembreys. The food: Chefs from all around Knysna including a dessert table (yes I shed a little tear of happiness when I saw this) and beer waffles from Whisky Waffles. The wait: Nervous. The final walk: Perfect. Each one of the models interacted perfectly with the crowd, everyone was very interested in the local designers especially the local Knysna designer’s Rich ‘n Creamy.

Blik – Pac Man
Blik brought out 3 new wall decals all relating to an old favourite arcade game we all know and love: PAC MAN! Blik in association with Namco Bandai Games let our favourites loose to play on our walls. Pac Man, Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde are all there. You can navigate your way through the maze, avoid the ghosts and eat all the dots.
