As this is a big project of a very dear friend of mine, Eugene Barnard (catch him on http://www.geneluke.blogspot.com/). I have decided to do a feature spread on the fashion show over the next few weeks to the build up of the big event. And yes the first part of this will be featured on The Organiser himself and the process of him reaching the final day. Eugene has kindly agreed (I cornered him and forced him to do this, but that’s our secret) to answer some of my questions.
LD: What is the theme of the Fashion Show?
GL: The theme of the show is “Nature Inspired” with the focus on taking inspiration from the environment - keep it local, be as nature friendly as possible and with saying that restore information, diversity and the environment.
LD: How was the theme decided on?
GL: The Nature Inspired show falls part of the Naturally Knysna Festival which introduces the locals to act responsibly, be sustainable, contribute to your communities, keep it local and to become a nature inspired town. One of the key factors for me is to have the greatest respect for the environment.
LD: What is your inspiration for doing this?
GL: We have done various fashion shows in the past before, but none like this. This is the perfect opportunity for our local designers to showcase what they have to offer and from what I’ve seen - they’re all so amazing and distinctive. Keeping it local is after all “lekker”
LD: Tell us what we can expect?
GL: The most beautiful locally produced clothing, shoes and accessories. I’m sure the bright colours, elegant fabrics and textures will be a big hit amongst all.
LD: Who are the designers to look out for?
GL: Local designers include Rich and Creamy, Ali Unlimited , SUNstone, Bennett and Co and Gypsey Lou.
LD: Tell us more about the models; I heard they are all ages and all sizes?
GL: We have twelve local models from Knysna and surrounds, and yes they’re all different. Fashion is and should be for every age, size, culture and budget. That’s why we have decided to source models all over this spectrum in order to inspire the young and old.
LD: Why did you decide on this?
GL: This is how it should be. I am aware that certain fashion shows source a certain type of model or look – however in “real life” people are all different and unique.
LD: Share 1 secret with us that no-one else have heard of – like an exclusive behind the scenes?
GL: None of our make-up that will be used during the show was tested on animals. The amazing team of the Knysna Beauty Therapy Institute will only use Alila products and synthetic hair brushes.
Wow – seems like this is really something to look forward to, definitely one show not to miss this Spring!
