I remember when I collected stickers, I got super excited to show my friends the beautiful new butterfly or Lion King Pumba sticker I got the evening before after rading the Cardies sticker stand and forcing my mom to buy them for me. But far from this Payton Cosell Turner actually uses stickers to decorate dull walls and create art pieces.
From a distance the walls appear to be covered in elegant and unique wallpaper but once you move closer the design jumps out at you. Chains of daisies, Elvis’, hot-dog carts, dragonflies and bears.
Payton and her fiancĂ©, Brian Kaspr, started Flat Vernacular. They specialize in original hand- drawn, hand-printed wallpapers. They believe in keeping things small and personal as this is very important to their craft and spirit. “We take great time and care with each project that comes to us, and are happy to work with clients both large and small.”
Payton’s inspiration comes from a 1970’s wallpaper that hung in her late grandfathers, Howard Cosell’s, home. “It was crazy and beautiful, with test tubes, bubbling beakers and bugs.”
