NYFW – Vera Wang

Vera Wang used India as the inspiration behind her line.  Using rich colours, gauzy ikats and a few elements in tasteful cuts and shapes.  I loved the line.  It was creative and enhanced the models’ bodies in the way that I would love to look in these outfits.  Once again Vera Wang has impressed us.

NYFW – Victoria by Victoria Beckham

The 2nd line from designer Victoria Beckham was inspired by her Los Angeles lifestyle.  The line consisted of various shapes of dresses no longer than knee length.  The figure skimming dresses were all flirty and playful.   Some of the dresses had a sun bleached effect where they were light on top and then moved to a purple and then blue ombre creating the perfect whimsical sun feeling.

NYFW – J.Crew

Focussing just on the men now.  J. Crew has provided us with layered looks for men.  Shorts, fitted long pants which end above the ankle, blazers and jerseys.  Amazing aqua and army colour palettes, checked shirts and jackets, bright socks underneath boots and colour blocking shorts.

NYFW – Marc Jacobs

Stripes, stripes and more stripes.  Marc Jacobs showed skirt slung low on the hips hanging to knee length paired with crop tops.  Yes ladies, it is time to do your sit-ups and crunches again.  Jacob’s evening wear also took form from stripes.
Even though I was not crazy about the colours and material I can appreciate the cuts and the fabrics used.  Watch out Spring  Summer 2013, a lot of mid riff’s will be shown.

NYFW – Reem Acra

From the designer herself watch this video to hear how she describes her Spring Summer 2013 line.

I only have 1 word to describe it with and it is “amazeballs”!

My favourite looks:

NYFW – 3.1 Phillip Lim

Patchwork dresses, cropped pants, grunge overalls and biker jackets.  He made statements with grunge boots, floral baseball jackets and sweaters tied around the waists.  The outfits reminded me of the 90’s movies like Bio-Dome and Wayne’s World, creative and fun.  According to Phillip Lim the “cut-up” grunge look is back for Spring Summer 2013.

NYFW – Pierre Balmain

Classic structured lines, peplum waists, structured coats & jackets, A-line skirts, short jackets, skinny jeans, and micro mini skirts for the ladies and the men were seen in structured yet casual suits with fitted to skinny legged pants and shorts.   This collection screamed youthful yet sophisticated.

NYFW – Carolina Herrera

Poet sleeves, flirty skirts, sheer blouses, voluminous maxi skirts, one shoulder gowns and Rococo styled curlicues all gave way to the designer’s airy feel of “Lightness and fluidity”.  The colour palette of light foamy pastels were contrasted with poppy orange and black.  This is another line that kept me captured through the entire show.   Models seen in the show was Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss.

NYFW – Victoria Beckham

Girly fun athletic dresses, manly shirts, womanly shape hugging dresses signature to Victoria Beckham’s closet.  The designer used breezier fabrics in the spring summer 2013 colour palette of white, black, poppy orange and nude.
Beckham wanted to explore “the notion of how a woman can emotionally connect with her clothes and how they make her feel”.

NYFW – Zac Posen

Romantic sex!  Every item of clothing was made to accentuate a women’s body.  Florals, silk and chiffon and a variety of warm sunset oranges and pinks and sexy black numbers flowing into shades of grey looked amazing on each model.  Miss Naomi Campbell opened the show for Posen and she definitely owned the catwalk.

NYFW – Timo Weiland

The show started with boring whites continuing into the same boring pastels seen in so many other SS 2013 shows.  I’m sorry but I only watched half of the show and was awoken by my puppy licking the drool from my face.  Please feel free to skip this video.

NYFW – Diane von Furstenberg

Fun graphic prints and wild colour palettes gave you the feel of a fashion party where everyone is invited.  While watching the show I had a happy feeling and unintentionally sat with a smile on my face.  Be it the mirror doves hanging from the roof, the models looking happy and the clothes that were a fun and a different sight to see.  Ms. von Furstenberg, I truly loved your line.

NYFW – Derek Lam

Derek Lam chose a different yet new colour palette for his spring summer 2013 line.  He’s over the knee skirts and dresses in leather had structure but also gave us a sensual look.  He wanted to create a line which gives every woman the “ease of zipping it and moving forward” as described by the designer himself.   Some items were very rag & curtain bag inspired but he made a come back on others.  All and all a very mixed feel for his new line.

NYFW – Monique Lhuillier

Mermaids, the ocean, big graphic prints, embroidery and embellishments.  Monique Lhuillier gave us something different for Spring Summer 2013.  Kimono sleeves, tailored pants & shorts, flowing silk chiffon gowns and peplums created ends of mermaid tails.  Lhuillier’s looks were fresh, inspired and showed us the ocean and all its components from the real to the unreal which was the inspiration behind it all.

NYFW – Jill Stuart

A definite trend for Spring Summer 2013 is lace which was once again seen at Jill Stuarts show at New York Fashion Week.  Soft silky knee length pastel dresses came down the runway followed by the black dominatrix and then the white business looks.  More pastel coloured dresses followed by silk dresses bored us from there.
